CSME Presents at NSTA New Orleans, 2024
Science Instructional Coaches Kayla Cherry and Sarah Stults facilitated two workshops in New Orleans at the start of November. Both sessions led participants through activities demonstrating the power of the planning and facilitating interactive and impactful professional learning models to promote the goals of NGSS-aligned instruction.
In Cultivating the Learning Conditions for Student Sensemaking: Tools for Reflective Practice, participants deepened their understanding of learning conditions necessary for student identity development, safety, engagement, and scientific sense-making. They experienced a ready-to-use reflective protocol, a Learning Cycle Action Plan, to guide strategic planning for cultivating these learning conditions. In Put the Pro in Professional Learning, participants used a facilitation checklist and planning template to plan and receive feedback on mock professional learning activities for disseminating best practices for NGSS instruction.
